On the afternoon of September 17th, at the invitation of our school, Mr.Zhang Longhai, Vice President of Minnan Normal University as well as Adjunct Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of Xiamen University, gave an academic lecture entitled Memory and Cover-up: Appreciation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Works in the hall of Mingdao Building. Deputy Dean Ding Shuqin presided over the lecture. The attendees included our school’s teachers and graduate students as well as other schools’ representatives.
Professor Zhang firstly introduced the Japanese-British writer’s life experience and writing style, and then mainly analyzed how the author utilized memories to intentionally cover up the trauma of history from such perspectives as the memory of childhood, war and the nationality.
Kazuo Ishiguro was born in Nagasaki, Japan, then moved to the UK with his family and obtained British citizenship. Known as one of Three Immigrate Giants in British Literature, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017.The theme of memory runs through his writing career。
