On October 26th, the rematch of annual FLTRP (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press) International Talent Cup in Gansu Province consisting of English public speech, writing and reading contests was held in Northwest Normal University. 111 students from Gansu Province’s 20 colleges and universities participated in it. After fierce competition, 6 contestants selected by Lanzhou University(LZU) achieved remarkable success, including 4 grand prizes, 1 first prize and 1 second prize. Among them, 2018-grade Yu Yaoyu of School of Management and 2016-grade Wu Xiaoya of School of Foreign Languages and Literatures(SFLL) won the grand prizes in the speech contest. 2016-grade Zhang Jinmei and 2017-grade Wang Chaozheng of our school respectively won the first and second prizes in the writing contest. 2017-grade Chen Shiyi and Lv Xuan of our school won the grand prizes in the reading contest. Their instructors received corresponding prizes for excellent instruction. On behalf of Gansu Province, the four contestants who won the grand prizes will proceed to Beijing for the national final in early December.
FLTRP International Talent Cup is a public non-profit contest jointly held by FLTRP, Advisory Committee of Foreign Language Teaching in Institutions of Higher Learning, Ministry of Education, and Sub-committee of English Teaching Guide for Institutions of Higher Learning, Ministry of Education. As one of the largest and most influential platforms for English competition nationwide, it is also one of the English contests with the highest participation throughout the country. Our school assumes such tasks as hosting the preparatory competition of LZU, selecting and training the contestants. In recent years, due to our school’s effective work as well as participants’ joint efforts, LZU students have been award-winning at the rematch and gradually become the brand of LZU’s foreign language teaching, which will greatly spur students to learn English. Thereupon our university’s foreign language teaching will be constantly enhanced and our school’s construction of Double Top-class will gain momentum.
